1- TechReflect: Imagine you were asleep for a thousand years and suddenly woke up in this technological age. What are some things that can help you get up-to-date with using technology?

First of all I would probably really freaked out by the technological advances of today, just looking at what they had back then and what they have now its just astounding! The cars the buildings the computers the means of communication, everything! After I get over all these advances, I would first probably ask someone what’s going on, and ask how to use everything (that is if they know the language). Basically there is no primary technology that I can refer to help me understand the advances because there was no form of technology back then. Another way would be pure observation, I would observe the people around me and pick up on the ways of using things. Basically I would adapt tot the society threw “merging” with the society.

2- Read p.383-4. What inspired Alan Kay? What did he accomplish?

he built many micro computers, made the standard "btrimapped screen" with icons that display on the Windows in which we use today. came up with "paint" and interactive activities. Developed Macintosh. it seems that his inspiration is the children and making a better and "Funner" world for the future children.

a-Do you think educational games are good ways for students to learn in schools? Give examples that support your arguments.
i think that its REALLY important for kids to have interactive games, its a diffrent way to learn something, and it encourages kids to learn. not only that it gets kids excited about to doing classwork and they remember the stuff more easily. for example there is Mavis beacon, sometimes it has games which helps you type faster, and scrabble is a fun spelling games that helps you exercise your vocabulary as well has have fun =]

pod cast comparison

Pod cast1: this pod cast was about weddings, and in the pod cast the host interviews another lady and asks her about her wedding. She asks her many questions about how she met her husband and how he purposed etc. but basically it was a really long interview, similar to what they do on the radio.

Pod cast 2: this podcast is about politics but put a "fun twist" to it, its a political/comedy podcast. it is composed of intro music/title, first topic and discussion, 2nd topic picked from audience(viewers) and last is the "comment & question" where someone posts a question and people answer in with a creative answer and the "best" get put in the next show.

friday Review: questions

1- Why is file compression important on the Internet?
its the process of storing or compressing the size of a file so there is space to old other files, and you only bring it out when you need it. therefore it makes you computer able to go to any site. rather than a certain few that can "fit" in your computer's hard drive.

2- What new services are available as a result of the commercialization of the Internet? What new problems are arising as a result of that commercialization?
new things like online shopping come from the commercialization, also many networking sites and a lot of the Internet is ".com". a majority of people use ".com" sites. but it can also be a bad thing, because it can create new crime.

3- Residents of the People’s Republic of China can have their Internet access blocked for a period of time if they attempt to access banned sites. Do you feel this is an effective way for the Chinese government to control people’s behavior on the Internet?
honestly, there is no point to block certain sites because they will attempt to get on it someway or another, but i personally think bad sites SHOULD be blocked, and stopping their Internet access will serve as a reminder not to try it again. It is similar to the way a parent handles their child, you punish them for doing something wrong, and next time they think about doing it again they think of the punishment and refrain from it.

Explain how and why the Internet was created:
a net work for the invention of the Internet was called ARPANET. they successfully sent the first message via computer, from UCLA to Doug Engelbart's in Standford. it was really to be used in war, but later spread.
how: it is a mesh of networks, so computers can communicate.

Describe the technology that’s at the heart of the Internet.
Internet protocols is like the "language" of the Internet ex" hhtp, Html etc. It allows all networks on the internet to communicate. they have "routers" wich helps determine were the transmitions go.

Describe the technology that makes the Web work as a multimedia mass medium.
the acsess that everyone has to the internet. all the networks are connected and so many people use it. the internet doesnt have any bounderies. also the creation of email adresses and other web adresses like .com, .edu, .net ETC.

Discuss the tools people use to build Web sites.
note pad and web prtocols like (HTTP, HTML) . also some poelpe use prgroams that automatically convert these, like microsoft word, power point ETC.

Boolean logic:
its is used in search engines that help specify a certain topic. for example you want to look Indian culture, but you wank to make sure its not "American Indians (native Americans), so you specify that, and it wont come up in the search engine.

RSS is very simple: hence the name really simple syndication. we use it every time we write on our blog. its where all the updates of certain pages comes to you instantly. WE use it all the times, be it on face book, or my blogger. 2 examples are Face book, and myspace. and yes anyone can use it, its really for the benefit of the user, and is not meant to be difficult.

TECNO-OLO-GY!!!

1- Research different technologically-advanced schools and the technology that is out there for schools.

the lake walsh school district is becoming one of the most technologically advance schools in the U.S. even 5 year old are using computers. there is one computer for every 4 students, and it helps because it gives then a different way of learning. some ways other schools have become technologically advanced is teachers are now using blogs, and most students in collage and university are required to send their work, and virtually all U.S colleges/universities require your work to be typed on a computer. some teachers incorporate a class with computer skills ex: math and Microsoft Excel. a k-8 school in Canada is the one of the most technically advanced schools there :

"My goal last year was to have a SMART Board [an interactive whiteboard connected to a computer] in every classroom, and I attained it," says principal Peter MacDonald. "We've got video conferencing centres, two giant screens in our gymnasium and we're putting a video conference drop in every classroom. We're hoping to interact with other schools around the world."

my wish list:

  • automatic projectors

  • automatic windows

  • automatic doors

  • laptops for students

  • books on portable players so every student will have one tablet so they don't have to carry around heavy textbooks

What do email addresses and URLs have in common? (p.310)

they are actually very similar . the thing that they have in common is that they both use domain namings to function. A web URL specifies the IP address of the website, while the email address the domain mane is used to pinpoint computer that it has to be sent to.

REVIEW!!! october 1, oh nine.

a) How does the type of Internet connection influence the things you can do on the internet?

belive it or not the type of internet connection greaty effects the things you do on the internet. there are many types of internet conenctions. there is dial up, satilite internet connection, and DSL. Dial up being the slowest connction and dsl and cable modem service being the fastest. First of all not everyone has access to DSL internet, such as places in the farms and in away from the city. speecking as one who eperenced dial up and DSL, DSL is way better. you can do so much more in much less time. with the slowness of dial up, your only inclined to do the nessesities liek checking your email, or using it for a reaserch paper (mostly becuse you get frusterated with it and only use it when nessasary). With DSL, its a whole diffrent story, you end up surfing the web join online communites such as facebook and you jsut spend much more time online.

b) Choose 2 areas of impact to discuss 1-2 (in total 3) social & ethical issues related to internet connections.

Areas of impact:
1) art, entertainment, and leisure
2) education
social and ethical issues:
->globalization and cultureal diversity
->eqaulity of access

1) ->art entertainment and leisure and globalization and cultureal diversity:
the world of the arts has incresed tenfold wit hthe creation of the internet, as a matter of fact whole new types of arts were created with the progression of the internet. peope from the UK can see videos done by people in saudi arabia and so on. the world on the internet is huge. youtube is a great way to expand the art and leisure as well as seeing it from other types of people. for example ive seen entertinment and the culture of new yorkens, and learned something that i wouldnt have lerned other wise, and i konw that someone form some other country watched the same thing. Aslo people from other countires can buy online art from other coutries, like paintings. new shows from other countries have been nitroduced with the web, and therfore we get experence a whole new culture.
-> art entertainment and leisure and eqality of access:
the bueaty of the internet is that everyone that has the internet can see the same thing that im seeing, where ver you are in the world. everone has this cetain right on the internet to express opnions on bloggs ect., which some cant even do outside the internet.

2) ->education and globalization:
there is so much that we learn from the internet about other cultures, and the wonderful thing about it is that its unbias. before, when americans learned about africa, they had and handful of textbooks about africa from the prespective of an American, it might have some facts but he can alos put his own opnion in there as well. now with the internet you can learn about afica from a person that actully lives in Africa, and then you can comparre and contrast and come to your own conclusion. also we can apply to diffrent univerities all around the world, where as before you would really konw od these universities.
->education and equality of access:
because of the Internet, we can see all the different universities, from other counties and everyone can apply, well mostly everyone. everyone can rad the same article on google and so on. the Internet has made education very accessible to everyone.
