notes with the brother :)

EMR/EHR: (electronic medical record) (electronic health record)
no one uses the paper base system, its very inefficient.
50% of the doctor notes turned out wrong because of the doctors notorious hand writing.
hand written paper notes have a lot of flaws.
-the doctors office has been high-tech computer based and WAY more efficient.
--paper based clinics are very unorganized and hard to maneuver.

Muna's presentation
visible human:
uses a computer simulation, a body was cut up and taken pics of, and make a 3d visual aid and people everywhere use.
from this scientist can find discoveries about the body,, and help cure disease.

Fractal Geometry and simulation:
can use comp calculators.

the chaos game: a simple comp game that allows you the graph what the human hand can not.

abstraction a set of concepts and ideas designed to mimic a system.

don't believe EVERYTHING that comes out of a computer, be/c there could be flaws.
you can still take a lot of knowledge out of the simulation.

spreadsheets:
pie charts show relative perorations of the parts to the whole
line charts: show trends over Time.

eradicating spreadsheet errors:
  1. plan workst b4 entering info
  2. make assumptions accurately
  3. double chk
  4. make formula readable
  5. use program functions
  6. put data first
  7. do not distract reader
  8. make it easy to compare
  9. relate to resto f doc
  10. learn from experts

not really used in accounting. spreadsheets are difficult and time consuming.

advanced professionals use mathematics-processing software.

statistics: the science of collecting and analyzing data. they answer random questions for the betterment of something. they are not used on spreadsheets, they use mathematical programs.

computer modeling and simulation:

it helps the researcher see it done in certain ways. most computer games use simulation

AOI:business and employment and education. used in vid games and used in physical biological and engineering, business marketing, banking and others.

its sometimes safer to use comp. simulation i.e studying nuclear reactions, its cheaper , it can save things like deer b.c we can view the change in nature to later better it.

some bad things would be:

wrong predictions, information can be lost b/c the program is so big, you get dependent on it.

word processors:
an application ppl use to manipulate tools and #.

charter formatting let the user yo format characters text size color and font.

corrects common typing errors etc.

WYSIWYG is what your type on the page is what will be printed.

out liner are idea processors they have 3 functions
Arranging info
regarding ideas
hiding and revealing levels of details as needed

a benefit as opposed to writing is the references like online dictionaries, quotation books, and other references,.

-spell check
there are formats like letter formats.
some software are programmed to recognize handwriting and some software has speech recognition.

review/popquiz on databases

. Define RDBMS.:
i have no earthly idea. but if i had to guess id say: random database memory storage.
2. Identify 3 tables that could be part of a doctor’s office patient relational database.
# of patients, last check up, insurance #...
3. Searching the database to find specific information is called a:
Query.
4. Why are we concerned about electronic databases?
its easy to steal from them because people from all around the world has access to them, as opposed to the paper files where there is only one copy.
5. Explain 3 different types of S/E issues related to online databases.
-Security: since its online different people can access it and it could be a threat to your identity.
-privacy: big companies and the government now have access to random bits of information of you because of databases, information that is very particular, a bit creepy and sometimes very personal.
-reliability: Electronic online databases can be more reliable then the regular paper back ones, first they are are accurate and probably more legible, also if the one copy of the paper file were to get damaged, all information is lost. and the internet can never break, its just over all more reliable.
6. What is something we need to protect electronic databases from? What can be used to protect them?
identity theft; we can protect it with firewalls etc.

notes form the essay stuff.

notes

privacy of information in different cultures.:
the united kingdom protection act keep people from accessing your personal info. and they must be consent of the individual.
employers must tell their employees if they are being monitored.

social consequences of the release of sensitive data stored in databases:
sensitive data: social security, credit #. credit reports, any thing that can be used for identity theft. its easy to recover data on computers. everything is kept on the computer. even when put into a recycle bin, there still in the computer.

ethical issues related to selling info on the web databases:
has both public and private. sold to brokers and co.s brings up issues like privacy and security.
the selling of our info can be dangerous. owners won feel secure and id theft will increase and create fear. they should give access to the owner to change info

electronic files/ ppr files:
electronic files are easier esp when searching. just type in the the name you wanted. database came make more copies of a file, unlike paper files.
yet its flawed: people from across the world can steal the information off the databases. noting is really deleted, whereas paper files can be deleted.

responsibility for the security of data in databases:
3mill databases breaches since 2005.
data bases are usually heavily guarded. but once breached people can loose all their wealth.if you see a breach you should freeze you account. software controls what goes in databases. it protects the databases. they use firewalls and other protection.

social consequences of outdated or incorrect info on databases:
be careful what data you give o organizations. in the US thy gather the info and use it. putting wrong stuff, you cant get certain important mails or stuff. also you might get mistaken for someone else. also you wont get the services you need.

review questions ch 7 , #7-11

7) sorting a data file means to organize the information in the file.

8) since its on the computer there is room for changes easier, also, let say that you want to count the number of guests for a party, the computer does that instantly while otherwise it would be done manually and get get messed up.

9)

10) we have the right to some privacy, but here in America technology has created new opportunities for people to abuse the system and find out things about people.

11)because now-adays computers hold all the information that generally people wouldn't want other people to know. and all this is exposed to anyone who wants to know it. Stalkers and killers can use the Internet to find someones home, also find out of there going to be home and etc. the computer and Internet are huge threats to security.

review Question:

2)the difference between a file manager and a database management system is a file manager manages files. files are within a database. a database management system is a group of databases. there similar because they deal with databases.

3)describe the structure of a simple database use term file, record, and field in your description.
a database is basically a comprehensive collection of related data organized for convenient access in a computer, the sub divisions within the database are called files, a Field in a certain part of the file like in the example the brother gave us about a guest list to a wedding, # of kids would be a field. a record is info relating to one person product or event.

4) what is a query? give Ex of the kinds of questions that might be answered with a quarry?
finds records to match specific criteria. It helps when dealing with other languages, the computer translates it for you. you can ask any question like searching for articles online.

5)what steps are involved in producing a standard multi column business report from a database?
open up excel and

6)what are thee advantages of a personal management software over paper notebook organizers? what are the disadvantages?
the advantages are that its easier to stay organized. also there is more of a chance that the information is clearer. A paper note book will only have one copy and if that ruins all information is lost, while management software can be made into copies. the advantages of Paper notebooks are that they are more portable as well as more traditional, and more people can read a notebook while not everyone can use management software.
